A double bill featuring the hip new indie voice of chanson, Berry and your favourite troubadours of 80s reinvention, Nouvelle Vague
Berry is currently riding a wave of success in France which has seen her remarkable debut album, Mademoiselle, go gold. Featuring the widely popular and catchy single, Demain, it’s an album mostly in French that’s a poetic and sophisticated look at love with all the beauty and melancholy that eternal subject can inspire. Like other subtle, intelligent and totally enchanting chanteuses such as Francoiz Breut, Berry is clearly on course for big things at home and around the world.
Beyond her striking voice and elegant songs is the surprising story of Berry herself. When she was about to drop out of school at age 16, an insightful teacher convinced the young rebel to stay and take up theatre studies, and a natural talent for acting soon emerged. In fact Berry may be one of the few top-selling French Grammy nominated artists to also get rave reviews for performances in Molière plays. Touring Australia for the first time, Berry will be bringing her bewitching stage presence to an intimate show backed by two acoustic guitars.
Sharing the bill with Berry is the much larger and louder supergroup, Nouvelle Vague, hot on the heels of their third album, 3, featuring their unique takes on classics by Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, the Sex Pistols and many others. By now this charming crew of post-punk meets bossa-nova-samba-roots almost needs no introduction since every gig here has involved mass sing-a-longs and stamping for more. For this tour the vocal duties will be handled by crowd favourites Phoebe Killdeer (she of the memorably wild stage-crawling Human Fly dance) and Mareva Galenter.
Get ready for three amazingly talented young women, two great acts and one night of unforgettable new music from France.
