So Frenchy So Chic in the Park, Sunday 20th January 2013 at Werribee Park
Capturing people’s imaginations gets harder by the day.So does taking them somewhere they haven’t been before. This year’s inaugural So Frenchy So Chic in the Park aimed it to do both. It succeeded by recasting the familiar as exotic: Werribbe Park Mansion as a private estate in Provence. We added fine food: hampers of gourmet French fare, stalls serving crepes, macaroons and roasted nuts. Then fine wine and fine weather. Then we took a crowd of 4000 through a feast of Paris’s most exciting contemporary pop, indie and hip-hop acts and what began as a relaxed, languid picnic had, by sunset, spirited itself into a feverishly wild revelry.
And now, mes amis, it’s time to do it all again…
So Frenchy So Chic 2013 takes off where that sunset in January left off. First up is a new menu of acts (with food to match). You know Melanie Pain, who’ll seduce you with her sultry melodies as you unpack your picnic rug. Collect your gourmet hamper, peruse a enticing array of food stalls, say hello to friends, settle in. Then brace yourself for the charming indie pop of Revolver. Pop the second bottle of sparkling for Carmen Maria Vega, whose bristling Edith Piaf meets Sex Pistols sound will get you off the rug and onto your feet. As dusk falls, it’ll be time for Nadeah, the wild cat punk rocker with a penchant of tearing up stages in the manner of Bardot. More champagne, anyone? If I don’t see you dancing I’ll be disappointed. More
