And what garden party would be complete without champagne? The finest bubbly from Laurent Perrier will be chilled and flowing all day, as will French beer and Halle aux Vins wines from the Pays Basques.

Halle aux Vins is a local importer that draws its exceptional portfolio from annual pilgrimages across the French winemaking landscape. This year they have selected four wines from  Plaimont producteurs in Saint Mont in the unspoiled countryside of southwest France. Rich in heritage, the motto of this appellation is ‘to leave a lasting impression of good taste and joie de vivre’. What could be more So Frenchy than that?

2012 Rose D’Enfer – Producteurs de Plaimonts (Tannat)

This is a discrete, lovely salmon coloured wine with a fine, elegant bouquet. You’ll love complex aromatic flavours of blackcurrant and raspberry with a touch of verve on the finish.

2012 Colombelle – La Belle Vie – Producteurs de Plaimonts (Colombard)

Yellow fruit with notes of white peach, pineapple and fresh almonds with a hint of jasmine dominate the intensely fruity bouquet of this delicious blend of Colombard and Ugni Blanc. Enjoy its exuberant, complex palate that’s both round and fruity with a floral touch and a crisp citrus finish.

2012 Côtes de St Mont – “Les Vignes Retrouvées” (Petit and Gros Manseng)

A dry and well-balanced wine with a crisp acidity suggestive of citrus zest. The long and refreshing finish is lengthened further by a hint of bitterness, delivering great complexity and tension.

2010 Côtes de St Mont – “Les 3 Chevaliers” (Tannat)

This charming and easy-drinking red has a floral, faintly confectionary bouquet of violets, dark cherries knitted with wild herbs and liquorice aromas. The palate is smooth and spicy with some gentle sappy tannins.
